How did Kings of Chaos started

Over winter break, Rocco was for some reason motivated to learn PHP and MySQL. What better way to do that than to make a game? He worked many a night building the basic design, and was all too happy to bug Ben about errors and problems.

At first the game was a model of simplicity. You sign up, you send your link to your friends, they click your link, and you move up in the rankings. You could attack a little too. YaY. Soon, everybody in our school was playing the game. Within a few days, there were over 1,000 signups and the number of users was doubling every 24 hours. The game was growing too quickly. More help was needed.

Aman and Ben joined up with Rocco to take care of the more technically demanding parts of maintaining a website. Aman stayed up late one night and programmed the armory. KoC was becoming a real game, and attracting more and more members. Many more people registered, and the High School server was getting hit with over 15,000 page views per day. Signups were starting to come in from other states, where users had sent their “secret links” to old friends and family members. KoC would need its own server, and a domain name.

With a domain name, you must have a good site design. Black on White with a table does not qualify. So, Nick, the guy who sits next to Aman and draws straight through AP US history, was brought in to do site design. In addition to a new design, KoC needed a name. Up until that point, KoC had just been, “Chaos”. Intimidating isn’t it? Well, www.chaos.com was taken. So, our new task was to come up with Chaos’s new name. www.[new name here].com. We came up with many possibilities. www.ReignOfChaos.com, www.RainOfChaos.com, www.LordsOfChaos.com, www.ChaosReign.com, www.KingOf.US. Until finally we settled on KingsofChaos. An added benefit of this name, was that you could shorten it to KoC. And K o C just sounds awesome.

KoC was ready to go big. We had the domain name, some sweet affordable hosting on a dedicated server (Kualo), a new design, and the armory was complete. YaY! And the four (then-)juniors said it was good. At least for six hours or so. Then everything crashed. I will try and recreate the event for you in ASCII art:

\ \ \\ + \\ | | // // + / / \\ + __ __ + __ + + // \ | \ | | | | |\ /| / + + |__/ | | | | | \/ | + + | \ | | | | | | + + / |__/ |__| |__| | + | \ // + + \\ / / // + // | +| \\ + \\ + \ \ Figure 1

Figure 1 also happens to be quite an accurate representation of KoC’s launch. Except it was in True Color, ASCII doesn’t give great resolution. If you want the full effect, light your monitor on fire*. Anyways, from then on, KoC spread like wildfire. In the span of about a week, advertised only through word of…fingers, KoC had reached every country from Finland to Fiji, and had grown to 200,000 total members. Since then it has continued to grow, and thousands more young and old from all over the world have bravely marched into battle and trained their armies into massive fighting forces. KoC is now one of the largest online games in the World. That’s good.

* Fire is slightly dangerous. Do not use it against your monitor.

Join the Bloody Siege! November 4 and 7, 2006

The excavation team at Thanatos Tower recently uncovered a small stock of Bloody Branches. These branches from an ancient Oakwood tree have the uncanny ability to summon the greatest of beasts! The Kafra Corporation was able to buy them and they are willing to give them as rewards to Guilds who are able to secure specified Agits during this coming Saturday and next Tuesday.

MECHANICS:

1. The Bloody Siege event is open to all Guilds.
2. On November 4 and 7, 2006, the siege will proceed normally except that four Agits will be designated “Bloody” Agits. Please see the schedule below:

November 4 November 7
Prontera Lazreagues Kendul
Geffen Jyolbriger Melcedez
Payon Hong_Roo Jukk-Rim-Hyun
Aldebaran Hohenschwangau Rothenburg

3. At the end of the siege, the Guild that owns one of the “Bloody” Agits wins 5 Bloody Branches, which can summon Boss and Mini Boss monsters alike.

A Bloody Branch is an ancient, gnarled branch with a contract written in blood upon the bark that can summon….

PRIZE CLAIMING PROCEDURE:

At the end of the siege, if your Guild owns one of the “Bloody” Agits, your Guild Master has two options on how to claim your prize:

1. The Guild Master can wait until they are contacted by a GM who will award the prize. Please understand that the GMs will be awarding to four Guilds across eight servers so this may take some time.

2. The Guild Master can file a customer support ticket to claim the prize. Please include your Guild name, Guild Master’s name, the name of the “Bloody” Agit owned, and siege date in the ticket. The prize will be awarded during one of the succeeding maintenance periods after the claim has been verified and processed.

*Note: It is only the Guild that actually owns the “Bloody” Agit that can claim the prize. Extensions and Allies are not counted.

Rising Force – Giga 5 Bug List

The RFO-PH Game and Community Management Team would like to inform the Community about the following bugs/error currently in-game. Some bugs have a temporary solution, but rest assured that we are doing our best to resolve all of these bugs as soon as possible.

The verified bugs are :

  • Strength Shields not working – Strength Shields effects are not working. For now treat them as Spirit Shields.
  • Guardian Shields not working – Guardian Shield effects are not working. For now treat them as Moral Shields.
  • Bellato class names and description script errors – This is a script bug wherein the Bellato class descriptions have reverted to RF Beta, while the class names are jumbled. For now players should focus on the skills offered and should use that as basis for their class change (not the name).
  • Screenshot failing in window mode – There will be instances where screenshot will not work in windowed mode, this probability increase if you alt+tab or select anything outside the RF window. Simply go and play RF in full screen to avoid the screenshot button from failing.
  • Delayed racial rank refreshing – Bug observed in Omicron where there is a delay in refreshing of the top 100. There is no proof of this in the commercial worlds yet, but should be observed closely in case this carries over from Omicron.
  • Zero slot items can`t be turned to Type A weapons via Item Combination – When turning a normal weapon to a Type A, the combination fails when you use a zero slot weapon. Observed to affect Lv. 40 and 45 weapon combinations.
  • The mysterious “Kill”/Missing Lvl 26 Quest- This is the former lvl 26 “Kill Volcanic Demolith Quest”, but due to the new level requirement of the Volcanic Cauldron Zone (you need to be level 40 to get in)Quest requirements have been changed to:FONT>
    • Accretia – Lv. 26 quest Hunt 10 Snatcher Horns
    • Bellato – L:v. 26 quest Hunt 20 Helkins
    • Cora – Lv. 26 quest Acquire 25 Jemz Riar
  • Walking Corite Ranger head. – Missing sprites for armor. Already reported to CCR.
  • Beam Effect Gone. – Missing sprites for Beam effects on shield. Already reported to CCR.
  • Monster Spawn/Unspawn bug –  Still no work-around on this bug, and has been reported to CCR. For now players can try to hit the monster before they vanish (i.e. hitting a monster prevents or delays them from unspawning).

We would like to inform the Community that the RF Game Management team is working doubly hard in getting all of these issues resolved.

Omerta

Omerta is a text-based massive multiplayer RPG game, based on the stories about the legendary don Barafranca.

Set in the 1930′s gangster and mafia world, the game is all about status, money and respect. Players get rank points by doing crimes, stealing cars and busting friends out of jail. You can even run you’re own organised crime ring, robbing local banks and holding up cars on quiet roads. As you delve deeper into the dark gangster world, many players find other business opportunities, such as gambling clubs, reselling booze and even drug dealing.

New game players choose to start in a city of either USA or Italy, where the mafia has got a large influence even now. One of the more gambling cities, Las Vegas, allows gangsters to try their luck with a wide range of slot machines, black-jack games, and even roulette tables.

In a deadly and sometimes cruel world it helps to have allies, both for protection and shared wealth. Many game players have set up families, who will look out for eachother until the very end. Families are rich, powerful and can run whole neighbourhoods of a city, so you may want to keep on their good side. As you would imagine, they aren’t too happy if another player or rival family shoots one of their guys or takes one of their casinos.

For those more cautious game players there are other forms of protection, bodyguards, fast getaway vehicles and even bulletproof suits.

So think you’re up to the challenge young gangster? Join the game, everything is free and if you’re good enough, grow strong and most importantly, stay alive, we may just be looking at the next Don Barafranca.
