There are 3 MMOGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Games) set to be released this quarter: namely Perfect World from Level Up!, Granado Espada by IPVG and Lineage 2 by AMDG. I have spent quite some time with all games and here are my impressions:

I would’ve played Lineage 2 PH if only someone bothered to give me an install cd/dvd. I did play at the US servers for a couple of months and i hated the grind and the overall travel time. Great content due to numerous patches over the years though (its more than 2 years old, people…). Props to the Dark Elf Model.

Granado Espada is a great looking game but i basically went from 1-20 without being attached to my characters. Blame the “bot” feature for this. I love the artistic style and period though. Great improvements over the CBT although i still feel it a bit lacking in the charm department.

Perfect World still has some bugs it needs to fix and some clarifications to implement but i wasted enough with time its face creator. Seriously, With 10 characters per server, this can take a while. I wish it were available on DVD though…

How about you? What local MMO are you playing?

My nephew’s really lucky. It’s his birthday this Sunday and my parents decided to get him a Nintendo DS Lite. Aside from kiddy games like Pokemon Diamond and Mario Kart—none of that gory stuff—an R4 was of course included in the package.

The reason why the R4 is such a great companion for the Nintendo DS is because it lets you place all of your games in one microSD card. A 1GB microSD card was part of the bundle, which means I can put tens, if not hundreds, of games on it. Placing all your games into the microSD and plugging it into the R4 has benefits.

Even if they’re a lot smaller compared to say, the games for the GBA, lugging around lots of DS cartridges presents it own set of problems. They could get damaged, or worse, lost. By placing the game ROMs I’ve downloaded online into the microSD, my nephew only needs to bring the console itself.

And, swapping cartridges adds to the wear and tear of the device. Once you place it in, the R4 will never leave your DS’ slot, because you can just pull out the microSD card if you want to add or remove games. The R4 will always stay in the unit, protecting the cartridge slot.

These benefits mean that my nephew will enjoy his DS gaming experience a lot more. He can leave his game cartridges at home, and can choose a game to play from the R4’s main menu. Again, I must note that it’s only legal to use downloaded ROMs if you own the actual game catridges. Playing the Ace Attorney ROM without owning a legit copy is illegal for example.

It looks like Bioshock is another classic in the making for developer Irrational games, as major media outlets scoring it in the high 90’s in terms of review percentage scores. It is also a swan song for Irrational in a way since they will be assimilated by 2K Games as the more corporately named 2k Boston and 2k Australia.

IGN says: “BioShock stands as a monolithic example of the convergence of entertaining gameplay and an irresistibly sinister, engrossing storyline that encompasses a host of multifaceted characters. This is an essential gaming experience.” While Gamespy says “Put simply, BioShock is an unparalleled achievement. No other game comes even remotely close to it in terms of raw emotional connection. It may still be too early to name a Game of the Year, but after experiencing BioShock in all of its haunting artistic glory, every other game will have to try that much harder to even be considered as a candidate.”

That looks like Game of the Year material right there, folks. So where do i buy Bioshock for the PC or Xbox360 in this third world wasteland? Probably from forum sellers or maybe even from Play-Asia/Datablitz if an Asian is available. Oh please 2k, let there be an Asian version of this game.

If you haven’t downloaded the StarCraft II Gameplay Preview Video (the smaller 720 x 404 version is a whopping 268MB by the way), never fear! We at Space Invaded got it covered. Literally. Read on to see a blow-by-blow description of what happens.

The whole preview is very Protoss-centric, with the narrator starting with a disclaimer that “nothing here is final.” We’re introduced once again to the Zealots, the Protoss basic unit. They now feature the Charge ability, which lets them close the distance quickly with enemies so that they can unleash their powerful melee attacks.

After annihilating a group of marines, the Zealots are in turn wiped out by Siege Tanks, the classic Terran unit known for long range and extreme hurt. Here’s where a new unit, the Immortal, comes in. These ranged attackers have a special shield that activates when it receives a powerful attack, minimizing its damage. The Immortals use this ability to survive the siege tanks’ barrage and destroy them all.

Then, we’re introduced to a new Terran unit, the Reaper. Reapers have jet packs to go up and down cliffs, and carry two pistols. Since they do weak damage, they’re able to punch through the Immortals shields and win the battle. The Reapers then jump their way to the Protoss base, and destroy a pylon to disable the photon cannons. The Protoss then bring in a Phase Prism, a new unit that can turn into a mobile pylon, returning power back to the photon cannons. The Reapers retreat.

Now a new “Dark Dragoon,” called the Stalker makes it debut. It’s special ability, Blink, lets it instantly teleport to anywhere it sees. This is used to pursue the faster Reapers (by teleporting beside them when they’re out of weapons range) to kill them all.

Then, we see the new version of the Nydus Canal, which is literally a worm exploding out of the ground to provide easy access for Zerglings to ambush the Stalkers. The Stalkers use their Blink to try and escape, but there are just too many Zerg, who rush to attack a line of Zealots.

From behind the Protoss lines come the Colossus. These gigantic robots have long legs that let them go up and down cliffs (just like the Reapers), and feature a powerful and sweeping ground laser perfect against the numerous Zerglings. The Protoss win the battle.

Then, pushing forward, the group of Zealots of Colossi encounter a group of Zerglings, who immediately mutate into Banelings. Once the mutation is complete, the Zerglings are now a relentlessly rolling suicidal swarm. They wipe out the entire Protoss group, except for a single Colossus who manages to walk up a cliff and escape certain death.

That is, until a group of Mutalisks show up and destroy it. The Protoss send their Phoenix, light spacecraft that feature the Overload ability. When activated, Overload causes the Phoenix to shoot all of its weapons at nearby enemies, causing lots of damage in a short amount of time. Problem is, after such an attack, the Phoenix is temporarily deactivated, becoming vulnerable.

But through Overload, the group of Phoenix destroy the Mutalisks, and push forward. Eventually, it’s shown how they don’t have enough firepower against larger ships like the Terran Battlecruiser. A group of Warp Rays come to the rescue, using their ability to do more damage the longer they fire to cut through the Battlecrusier’s thick armor. When pushing forward however, they encounter a group of marines who use their numbers to negate the Warp Rays’ slowly but surely approach. The Terrans then fortify their position with missile turrets.

Here’s where Blizzard shows off the ultimate Protoss weapon: The Mothership. Essentially a flying space station with powerful shields and weapons, it’s good that the Protoss can only have one of these at a time, and build it at great cost.

Yet the Mothership is well worth its cost, as demonstrated when it activates its Time Bomb ability. It creates a field that keeps incoming projectiles from hitting the ship. This lets the mothership destroy all the anti-air defenses in the area.

But that’s not all. When the Mothership moves towards a Terran base, it unleashes its Planet Cracker ability, which deals instant death to anything on the ground underneath the ship. When the Terrans try using Battlecruisers to dispatch the Mothership, it activates its Black Hole ability. Which of course sucks all enemy ships into non-existence.

The Mothership, having annihilated everything in its path, pushes forward and encounters a large group of Terrans. Protoss support units appear from nowhere and the battle that makes up the last part of the video is joined. After a few seconds of virtual mayhem, three nukes destroy everything. Three ghosts reveal themselves, and are instantly ambushed by Zerglings. After the ghosts are killed, the Zerglings maneuver themselves into formation, spelling out “GG” (good game) as they mutate into Banelings.

That’s all folks! Remember, nothing in the demo is final!

Composer Garry Schyman created the orchestral masterpiece that serenades you through your journey into the heart of Rapture. Today, we are releasing the 12 tracks that create the eerie string compilation in Rapture so that you can take the world of BioShock wherever you go. We have archived these 12 mp3s into a zip file for you for easy download. Grab it and take a listen — and remember the first moment setting eyes upon the sunken city, your first battle with a Splicer, when you first battled a Big Daddy, or the time you decided to save (perhaps harvest?) a Little Sister.

I think this is good deal as it also comes a 1 year warranty against the dreaded 3RL problem of select 360s. I remember buying my first 360 at 25k a year and a half ago. That was when local shop prices were as high as 40k. Sobrang sulit. The 360 has a lot of games and plays even better when you’re online. The only problem of owning one is you cant actually frag it out with n00bs in Xbox Live while grinding your way through World of Warcraft.. Sigh.

Just remember to pair it with an LCD or a TV that has support for 720p or even true HD. An AVR wouldn’t hurt, too.

IP E-Game Ventures Inc (e-Games), the online gaming subsidiary of publicly listed IPVG Corp., Megamobile, IPVG’s mobile application developer and 3D animation studio BeeHive digital, are proud to announce the release of new mobile Java games for its top online role playing game titles.

e-Games is releasing three mobile games for its school-based 3D MMORPG (massively multiplayer online roleplaying game) RAN Online, and another three mobile games for Granado Espada, the 3D MMORPG from famed legendary game producer Hakkyu Kim.

While most mobile games are created with a world audience in mind, these new mobile games were created exclusively for the Philippine market.

According to Manny Fernando, Megamobile president, e-Games will be one of the first online gaming publishers to bring their gaming titles on a mobile phone. He said that the popularity of e-Games titles is immense and these mobile games are just perfect for the players who can’t get enough of RAN Online and Granado Espada. Each game is uniquely designed with different fighting moves and strategies to defeat opponents.

Unlike their on-line gaming format, the mobile java version was adopted to be more of a casual and fun single player game. “By bringing the titles through their mobile phones, e-Games can continue engaging the gamers with their favorite titles even when their off-line. Since most of the Filipinos have mobile phones, we feel that it’s logical to extend their gaming experience to a small screen format”.

Using Java enabled phones, the mobile games can be downloaded via WAP or SMS.

The following mobile games are:

* Karuso’s Escape - Control Karuso and fight your way out of the Dungeon and go head to head with Evil Max in the Final Stage.

* RAN Girls’ Jealousy - Stop Mica and her female friends from spreading nasty rumors about you. Let the fight begin.

* Swordsman - Help the mysterious Swordsman to defeat the evil Leenakt and free his soul

* Little Red Riding Elementalist - The bid bad wolf is out to get Little Red Riding Elementalist. Use your punches and your kicks to stop the wolf

Ed Pasion, e-Games vice president for marketing, said that these mobile games based on their hit gaming titles will likewise reach players new to online gaming.

“These exclusively developed mobile games will keep our current players entertained and wanting for more. But more importantly it’ll reach to new players who have yet to experience the incredible virtual worlds of RAN Online and Granado Espada. Our mobile games will provide them a glimpse on how utterly fun our titles are,” he said.
