Star Wolves 2 Reviewed
Jul 13th
In Star Wolves 2, your dreams of becoming a fleet admiral come true. Like the prequel, Star Wolves 2 puts you in control of a frigate—complete with its own supporting cast of fighters! You’re the leader of a space-faring mercenary group (known of course as the Star Wolves) traveling around the universe looking for and accomplishing freelance missions for money. Eventually you’ll get involved in a galaxy-wide conflict, casting your lot with one of the major factions. The choice you’ll make determines how the story develop, and what the ending will be.From a production value standpoint, Star Wolves 2 is a mixed bag.
The graphics are obviously inspired by Homeworld, but there’s nothing wrong with copying what works. The explosions are big and beautiful. Laser beams cut through space. Missiles streak towards their target. A big part of Star Wolves 2 is space combat, and it’s great to see how it’s believably and interestingly presented. The cool rock soundtrack kicks in when you encounter hostiles, pumping you up for the battle ahead.

Maximizing Your Wii Experience
Jul 12th
I’ve played with a Wii on a large 40″ HDTV. And on a 13″ CRT (talk about old-school!). Can you guess which TV provided a better Wii experience?
No trick question here folks. Playing on the HDTV was a much more enjoyable experience, simply because there was more visual real estate to work with. Many Wii games, such as the Ubisoft shooter Red Steel, require precision with the Wii-mote. Not being able to aim at the right place at the right time and right away literally means your dead.
It’s definitely easier to aim at a particular pixel on the big 40-incher than on the puny 13″ TV. The HDTV’s higher resolution had nothing to do with it. Rather, it’s the bigger screen size that made the experience much more enjoyable. It’ll be easier to make minor adjustments, until your Wii-mote is right on the spot.

City Bloxx: Damn Addicting
Jul 6th
I’m currently reviewing a Nokia 5700 for Mobile Philippines. And one of the first things I check out on a new phone are the pre-installed games.
Marble Cannon is a Zuma clone of no consequence. The other game, City Bloxx, is highly addictive for some reason. Simplify SimCity into a challenge of attaining the highest population. Put in an action element that requires great hand-eye coordination. This is the formula for City Bloxx.
Basically, you’re given a 5×5 city grid with empty blocks to populate with buildings of different sizes and population capacities. The more advanced structures become available as your progress, and need to be placed adjacent to the more basic ones. When you pick a building type, the game shifts to the tower stacking mode.

ROSE Online closing in August
Goodbye Rose
Taken from LevelUp Website
To Our Dearest Rose Community,
Greetings!
As you may already know, we were put to the test when Triggersoft (Gravity’s development team for ROSE) not only ceased development and technical support for ROSE Online but also shut down all operations recently. Many thought this was the end. But resilient as we are, we found a way to survive. We decided to follow the free to play business model, a risky and bold move, but one that we were willing to take… all to keep a great game going, keep everyone happy and most of all, keep our community solid, intact and alive.
ROSE was touted as THE game to play during its launch. We were able to make it the 2nd largest game in the Philippines with one of the most loyal and passionate gaming community this country has ever seen. It was supposed to have had the coolest features that one cannot find in other games, from simple joys like cute outfits, to big weapons of destruction such as the funky Castle Gear. And who could forget the world of the Seven Hearts, seven planets with its own unique environments and features.
We can keep on fighting but there is only so much we could do. And so, it is with deepest regret that we inform you that we will be shutting down operations for Philippine Rose Online on August 6, 2007, at precisely 3:00 PM.
We know how much pain this decision will bring to our loyal community. That is why, as a token of our appreciation, we shall be giving BONUS CREDITS TO OUR LOYAL ROSE PLAYERS (to their MylevelUp wallet) and reimbursing all unspent Moonies (see mechanics below).
In this regard we’d also like to invite you to check out the Open Beta of Perfect World (July 18), the coming release of Rachel (Episode 15 for Ragnarok Online) now in Sakray, Flyff’s new Version 8 (coming July 25), and Episode 2 for RF Online (sometime August).
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We will cherish the 2 years that we’ve spent together. No experience will ever equal the things we’ve had together as friends and comrades.
We hope though that we see each other again… still here at Level Up!
Sincerely,
The pROSE Team
WarRock: Open Beta on July 6
Jul 6th
Heads up, troopers! WarRock, the country’s first online tactical First Person Shooter (FPS) game, will be finally on its highly anticipated Open Beta phase starting July 6.
Developed by Korean company Dream Execution Technology and published by ABS-CBN Multimedia, WarRock lets the players feel the adrenaline-pumping thrill of modern day warfare in land, air and water.
There are five character classes to choose from who can equip and operate various 21st century weaponry, including Panzerfausts, tanks, and Blackhawk choppers. It also features Close Quarters Combat, Urban Ops and Battlegroup, which are the three mission-based game modes that offer different maps to play on and war vehicles to use.
WarRock offers something that the usual first person shooter PC games lack: characters gain ranks, weapons are upgradeable, and the game is constantly updated with a new map, a new item, or a new mode to master. WarRock is a game that will take online FPS gaming to the next level.
The Open Beta phase will feature a new map and two premium items that even Closed Beta testers haven’t seen yet: Xaeun, a new Close Quarters Combat map, the UZI for the medic and the engineer, and the M4A1 for the assault. The first few weeks of WarRock’s Open Beta phase will also serve as the game’s stress test period to ensure the players with the best FPS experience in the Open Beta phase.
