The 2007 Ragnarok World Championship (RWC 2007) concluded last week in South Korea with Thailand winning the championship over host country, Korea. The Philippines ranked 3rd in the 11 country competition — South Korea, the US, Russia, Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, Brazil, Indonesia, Vietnam, Germany and the Philippines.

The Philippine team was composed of Bein Patrick Limpin, Mel Bryan Ungra, Chris Dimaunahan, Emmanuel Deleon, Jeffrey Custodio, Frederick Banaag and Aaron James Fernandez.

It was exactly this formula that eventually made Philippine online game publisher Amped Games sign the deal with Cyberstep, Inc., the Japanese game developer of the 3D online fighting game GetAmped.

Amped Games, formerly known as ABS-CBN Multimedia Inc., has taken the Asian hit game GetAmped under its wings alongside Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game Tantra Online and the recently acquired online tactical First Person Shooter game WarRock.

Developed by Cyberstep, Inc. in Japan in 2001, GetAmped was serviced in eight Asian countries including Korea, China, Indonesia, Japan and Thailand. It was touted as the “new Cinderella in Korean online game industry” in March 2006 by the Korean Digital Times when GetAmped reached a recorded sale of 22 Billion Won and a net profit of 9 Billion Won in 2004. Even after three years of service in Korea, GetAmped still continues to stay afloat in the midst of new online games, having exceeded 10 million registered users in October 2005. GetAmped has soon risen as the world’s first online fighting game with the highest subscription in 2006.

Amped Games expects GetAmped’s vivid environment, simple keyboard controls and intuitive features to appeal to the younger generation of gamers. The most exciting part of character creation though is using the game’s unique Skin Edit Tool, which allows the user to coordinate limitless character patterns. Tweak the character to make it look like a movie or a cartoon hero. Lengthen its ears, add fangs, put freckles on the face—all of these are possible with the GetAmped’s Skin Edit Tool.

GetAmped also allows players to make their own fighting styles by combining various accessories, weapons and character styles. The game stores at least 100,000 unique fighting style combinations, which will increase with the addition of new and consumable items such as vehicles and drinks.

This casual game also spells fun. A maximum of eight users can be in a game room at the same time to play GetAmped’s several game modes. Knock out opponents in the Amped Championship mode, or lead team to victory in Team Championship. Fight to death in Amped Deathmatch or strategize the most creative ways to eliminate other teams in Team Deathmatch. Shoot basketballs and kick soccer balls in Amped Sportsmatch. Defeat as many opponents as possible in Amped and Team Dogfight!

Barely two weeks after WarRock has started its Open Beta phase, the country’s premier online tactical first person shooter game is already preparing to open a new server very soon to accommodate its growing online community. The new server will be code named “Bravo.” Users can fully transfer their characters to either Alpha or Bravo servers without loss in levels or Dinar, WarRock’s in-game currency.

WarRock’s local publisher Amped Games, formerly known as ABS-CBN Multimedia Inc., expresses their desire to add a new server because of the overwhelming reception that the game has received from the players since its Open Beta last July 6.

“Our alpha server is almost always full or experiencing heavy traffic,” says Amped Games Product Manager Agnes Tapia. “We didn’t really plan to open the ‘Bravo’ server until after a month from now. But since the demand for it came earlier than expected, we’re going to have to do it sooner.”

Developed by Korean company Dream Execution Technology, WarRock is a fresh alternative to the various online role playing games in the country today. It lets the players feel the adrenaline-pumping thrill of modern day warfare in land, air and water. The five character classes can equip and operate various 21st century weaponry. WarRock also features Close Quarters Combat, Urban Ops and Battlegroup, which are the three mission-based game modes that offer different maps to play on and war vehicles to use.

The game has been recently updated with a new map called Xauen for the Close Quarters Combat, and new weapons: Uzi for the medic and engineer, and the M4A1 for the assault. The Nprotect gameguard is also installed to prevent the proliferation of cheaters in the game.

In the upcoming patch of WarRock, the Montana map will already be playable, and two new weapons will be released: the Glock for all classes and the SSG for the scout. Gamers who are already clamoring for the use of air vehicles and item mall release will have to wait until the commercial release of the game.

WarRock has been showing a steady growth in players since its Closed Beta phase and has so far exceeded Amped Games’ expectations in this early stage.
